Treating Blepharitis

BIOFILM REMOVAL

Blepharitis means simply eyelid inflammation and this inflammation is what eventually leads to dry eye disease with its multitude of different symptoms. It may sound confusing but dry eye can actually cause too many tears in advanced stages of the disease. This is because you can have dryness related to not enough oil in your tears OR not enough water in your tears. Patients with not enough oil represent the majority of all dry eye patients. If this disease progresses further to the watery stage, your eyes are overcompensating with too much of the aqueous part of your tears. This is a very bad sign in terms of permanent damage to your tear system and should be addressed immediately.

With blepharitis, you may have any of these symptoms:

  • Redness
  • Burning
  • Blurred vision
  • Irritation
  • Scratchiness
  • Foreign body sensation
  • Watery eyes
  • Dry eyes

A BlephEx treatment is a mandatory first step in restoring the health of your tear glands.

The chronic inflammation caused by biofilms not only damages your tear glands, but also the elasticity of your eyelids leading to early wrinkles, puffiness, sagging, redness, and wetness (in early stages of the disease), making you look older than you really are.

BlephEx

We offer BlephEx as the lid debridement technique of choice. All treatments start with removing the years of biofilm accumulation from your eyelids, and nothing works better than BlephEx. This eliminates the source of dry eyes and blepharitis, and by removing its food source, can help get rid of Demodex.

Demodex Mites Infestation

Biofilm is a great food source for a tiny mite called Demodex. This small creature lives along your eyelashes and causes itching, irritation and generalized discomfort. By removing the accumulation of biofilm, you are removing this tiny pest’s food source. See pictures below

Premature Aging

Do your eyes look red and wet all of the time? This is inflammation (blepharitis) of your lid margins causing irritation and excess tearing making you look old and tired, with premature wrinkling. Later, this inflammation will shut down your tear glands and make your eyelids sag and turn red. You might say that biofilm removal is the secret to the FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH!
